Full Stack Software Engineer

Do you like building and ensuring delivery of high quality innovative and engaging apps for web and mobile use? Are you looking for an ambitious new project to test and grow your skills?

We are seeking an experienced full stack engineer to develop software for a new web portal to securely consume various third-party data that we license including financial, medical, criminal, and educational data from a diverse set of APIs. This software will be deployed as part of the HUMAN Project (THP) that New York University will launch in early 2018.

The qualified candidate can think critically, act quickly, communicate effectively at all levels, and is a team player willing to fill in wherever an extra hand is needed.

D3 was founded by world-class researchers from NYU and MIT, and it is developing a revolutionary data collection and analysis platform that will disrupt longitudinal research. Key Duties and Job Responsibilities

Back-end systems developer will report to the Chief Architect / Director of Software Development, and will design, develop and maintain the data collection, verification and data operations platforms. Key responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with technical and scientific team members to collect technical and design requirements for data acquisition
  • Develop a secure client-server web portal for managing a set of API connections to third party data providers and integration within the larger THP data management platform, addressing technical and design requirements. The portal will be developed and tested in an AWS environment and then migrated to an onsite, secure data center.
  • Implement data transformation and integration rules based on industry best practice, to inform organization-wide data acquisition strategies
  • Work closely with data analysts to implement data validations and data quality standards
  • Define and maintain metadata, data policies, and business data rules
Requirements
  • BS in computer science or equivalent
  • In-depth knowledge of Javascript (front-end and server side) and Python
  • In-depth understanding of HTTP, Internet Security, and authentication
  • Previous experience implementing API calls with secure authentication (e.g. OAuth, JWT)
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools (e.g. git, hg)
  • Experience creating ETL scripts based on data ingestion and data mapping requirements
  • Hands on experience using AWS
